Darn it, the Clintons are up to their usual tricks and pranks again. This time, Hillary wants a piece of Obama's campaign in a cruel way, by stating that Obama is copying off other peoples' words, and not giving credit to the originator of those words. While in Wisconsin, Obama, in a speech, states a couple of words of inspiration that belonged to Deval Patrick, and Dr. Martin Luther King. Obama goes on to state that even Hillary, has used his words to pump up her campaign, for example, "fired up and ready to go."

The US intelligence assessment that Iran ceased a secret nuclear weapons programme in 2003 closes a huge chapter in the aggressive foreign policy of George W Bush and Tony Blair towards the nations of their so-called 'Axis of Evil'. The biggest question raised by the NIE audit is about intelligence itself and the way that the Bush and Blair teams shamelessly put it to short-sighted political use. The credibility of the intelligence agencies in both Britain and the US is severely damaged by their part in the casual adventurism of the administrations in both since 2001.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF HERO

Is there anybody left who thinks the war in Iraq was justified? The weapons of mass destruction which we were told Saddam Hussein was making have never been found. And the legal basis governments on both sides of the Atlantic used to justify it has been exposed as threadbare. Nowan RAF officer is facing jail for refusing to go to war because he didn't believe in that legal case. Flight-Lieutenant Malcolm Kendall-Smith's bravery is not in question. He was decorated for his previous tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. But for this serviceman the second Iraq war was just too much. Many inside and outside the military will be appalled that a serving officer refused to answer the call to serve his country. But that refusal may in itself serve his country well. Politicians should not expect servicemen to follow every order if it is manifestly wrong.

For the past week, we have sat in our living rooms incredulous and horrified at the hurricane Katrina disaster unfolding in New Orleans on our television screens. There is only one fitting and biting conclusion - you must resign. And the looters - well, you have done nothing about the biggest looters of all - the oil companies, who are raiding the pocket books of America with brazen impunity. It is not costing any more to extract oil from the ground or to transport it here. No, it is sheer, unabashed greed by the oil companies - who are your biggest campaign contributors. Please resign before you wreak any more havoc on this country. There are natural disasters and there are man-made disasters. You have made Katrina infinitely worse than it had to be

On April 20, 2005 Bill Morrow, Republican state senator for North San Diego County and South Orange County, suffered another ignominious defeat in the California Senate Education Committee, when it killed his bill, SB 5. A similar bill was defeated last year. He pledges to bring it up again in January 2006. He grandiosely terms the bill as a "Student Bill of Rights". It might be more aptly named a "Student Bill for the Right". With the right now in control of congress and many of the courts, it rankles them that higher education has steadfastly refused to embrace the philosophy of the right. Morrow's bill was an attempt to change that.

Life often contains many ironies. If you mix in war, it can contain many, many more.
Case in point. Saddam Hussain has probably not seen daylight for a long, long time. Buried deep in his underground bunkers, the world for him is reinforced concrete walls, 3 ton steel doors, escape passages, and the ever present concern that one of those bunker busting bombs will reach him one day.
But the...
